Between

There exist spaces that are neither otherworldly nor mundane, places that are even more in-between than the Elfhiem itself. These are the between places. They are the middle of everything and nowhere, a state more than a place.

The principle mark of a between-place is that it is separate from time in both places. No matter how long you spend between, no time will have passed in either of the connecting worlds. This does not apply to time outside the passage in the worlds, but only to time spent in the passage itself.

No one has ever met another traveler in the between, either you enter together or you must meet on the other side. This property makes even the Fae nervous, when they happen to remember it.

The conditions required to enter the passage vary for each passage. Some are comparatively easy to enter, while others require a special time or condition.

Passages through the between are often marked with the sign of Thereamid; a marking of which the Fae refuse to speak. The maker of the signs is older than they are, and as they do not understand them they dare not deface or defile the mark, and they never draw the symbol themselves. However, they are not above using the mark as a sign-post when journeying between the two worlds.
